Local food and wine, a perfect pairing
Imagine a place flanked, on one side, by an immense 13th-century castle, and on the other, by a river lined with leafy linden trees, sheltering a bucolic terrasse in their shade. Then take three winegrowers, one restaurateur, and one chef, each sharing the same environmental convictions, and bring them together around one common vision. The result? The Auberge des Isles, where the local flavours of the Loire region are proudly featured on the food and wine menus alike. Located in the medieval village of Montreuil-Bellay, tucked away from the crowds of tourists racking up visits in the castle-riddled Loire valley, this prize-winning restaurant proposes a creative, seasonal cuisine that pairs perfectly with a wine list that will make wine lovers swoon. The restaurant’s list of suppliers is limited to a radius of 100km, and 60% of the wines come from the Loire region, featuring, in particular, young producers who have adopted natural, biodynamic wine-growing practices.
