An authentic bistro, brought up to date

Of the former farmyard to which La Grange d’Avioth owes its name, only the stone frame at its entrance remains. The only restaurant in the small village of Avioth, situated near the Belgian border in northeastern France, La Grange serves downhome bistro classics that have been brought up to date and change in accordance with the seasons. For Raphaël Alves, who took over La Grange in 2013 after reaching the summit of culinary culture in France and abroad, it seemed utterly unreasonable that “fish caught in Norway should pass through China to end up on a restaurant table in France.” In a rural area accustomed to long menus, Raphaël made the bold choice of offering a short, seasonal bistro menu featuring fresh, local ingredients. Here, vegetarians and vegans are hardly an afterthought. “Customers have come up to me to say how happy they were to find something else that they could eat on the menu besides a basic salad bowl and fries,” says Raphaël. La Grange brings people together with a quality, authentic bistro cuisine that is accessible to all.
