Generous portions and local Provençal flavor

Founded by Swiss art collector Maja Hoffman to support the activities of independent artists around the world, the LUMA Foundation broke ground on its Arles location in 2014. On the site of a former train repair yard, the Parc des Ateliers hosts artist studios and exhibition spaces inside a shimmering, Frank Gehry-designed tower. Inside, Le Réfectoire canteen regales locals and art enthusiasts alike with generous portions of scrumptious, sun-kissed cuisine. Buzzing with conversations at the bar counter and unexpected exchanges at communal tables, the restaurant embodies the community spirit that characterizes the Provençal city of Arles and its rich cultural scene. “Respect for biodiversity, humanity, and the environment are in the Luma Foundation’s genes,” explains restaurant manager Constance Gumbau. For Gumbau, the LUMA Foundation’s values are reflected in Le Réfectoire’s approach to the culinary arts: “We serve simple, quality dishes that showcase our values: simplicity, generosity, and respect for every link in the supply chain, from the producer to the customer.”
