A charitable canteen

Since 2019, Popote has been catering to the clientele of La Friche Lucien, a multipurpose community space built on an abandoned plot of land just south of Rouen. Operating inside of a converted shipping container, this pop-up food stand serves an eclectic selection of dishes, inspired by local cuisine and international flavors alike, made with ingredients sourced locally or even grown on site. Conceived by a collective of students from the École Normale Supérieure d’Architecture de Normandy—the preeminent school of architecture in the Normandy region—La Friche Lucien was created fight social exclusion by providing food and culture at prices affordable by all. In addition to free concerts and affordable menu items, Popote and La Friche Lucien also work with local non-profits to put on “pay-what-you-want” barbeques to benefit partner organizations.
