Cooked with love
In an area of eastern France where chain restaurants reign, Avec Amour is a welcome respite, serving seasonal, market-fresh cuisine in signature glass jars. Nestled at the end of a flower-lined lane in Terville, just across the border from Luxembourg, this farm-to-table restaurant is a testament to the environmental commitments of its co-founders, Jodie and Romain. At only twenty-five years old, the couple set out to combat what they saw as a lack of sustainable initiatives in their hometown, and they have spared no effort to achieve this objective. “One hundred percent of our meat comes from France, the beer we that serve is brewed twenty kilometers away, and we source the majority of our wine directly from producers who have adopted organic, sustainable agricultural practices,” explains Jodie. The couple’s efforts to encourage sustainability extend beyond the kitchen—they are also at the helm of several social initiatives in their community: coordinating purchase orders among local restaurants to limit the number of deliveries, for example, or creating professional development opportunities for handicapped individuals. The eco-conscious restaurateurs also offer culinary workshops for adults and children alike in the hopes of sharing their love for sustainable cooking.
